די בריק איז אַ קעשענע אין דער נאַכט

סע'שמעקט מיט טײַך־פֿיש און זומער־רעגן

מיר צערייסן די נעט אין אונדזער נויט

בראָנפֿן און יש אויף אונדזערע צונגן

מײַן מויל איז געװעזן אַזוי פֿול

אַז איך טאָר נישט מער געשלונגען

די בריק איז נישט קיין גראָע

זי פּולסירט מיט טעכניקאָלאָר

איך טרינק זשע נאַכט־יש

פֿון איר מילגרוים־מויל

Not A Grey Bridge

who will yearn for you;

who will move

toward you on a nostalgic bridge?

the bridge is a pocket in the night

it smells like freshwater fish and summer rain

ripping the seams with our yearning

hooch and schnapps on our tongues

my mouth was so full

that I shouldn’t have swallowed

this is not a grey bridge

it pulsates in technicolor

i drink nighthooch

from its pomegranate mouth

Jordan Lee Schnee is a German-American writer, musician, and translator. He holds a doctorate in comparative literature from the Freie Universität Berlin and curates readings of minoritized languages for Berlin’s Haus für Poesie. Propellor Berlin published his poetry collections "Piece Process" (2025), "Entfassung" (2019) and "Unapprehension" (2018). He is currently working on a manuscript of "anti-poetry" in Yiddish.
